Chelsea’s season has certainly wandered off path having started in tremendous fashion under new manager Maurizio Sarri
The Blues are currently languishing in the sixth position with 50 points from 26 games. They lost 2 places alone in the last week, due to the nature and the magnitude of their drubbing at the hands of defending champions Manchester city. Manchester United leapfrogged them into the 4th position with 51 points. Arsenal are level on points with the blues, but edge ahead because of a superior head to head record this season.
There have been constant rumors that Sarri might be sacked before even completing one season at Stamford Bridge. The rumors might very well be true as Roman Abramovich is not known to be the most patient man when it comes to the managers of the club.
Saari brought Jorginho along with him from Napoli. While Jorginho was impressive in the initial few weeks while Chelsea were doing well, his performances have certainly dipped over the past few weeks and he has been scapegoated by the Chelsea fans for their disastrous away form as of late. However, former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur forward Dimitar Berbatov feels that Jorginho has been unfairly criticized at times,
“Maurizio Sarri is obviously under pressure given Chelsea’s history of sacking managers but all he can do his start winning games, even if they have to be a few ugly 1-0s. “

“Moving N’Golo Kanté to the centre of midfield is an obvious move – although I do think some of the criticism of Jorginho has been unfair; he seems to be getting the blame for everything!”
“He is a good player, as proved at Napoli, it’s just that sometimes the Premier League can be too much for some players. Having Kanté next to him would probably be a big help.”
Author’s take
Sarri and Chelsea’s technical staff need to work things out as soon as possible if Chelsea are to finish in the top 4 and feature in the next season’s Champions league. And as for Jorginho, he might have to be deployed in a slightly different role from now onwards.
