ENG VS IND: Moeen Ali Backs Virat Kohli To Lead Team India In Rohit Sharma’s Absence For Edgbaston Test

ENG VS IND: Team India will lock horns with the England cricket team in the fifth and final Test match at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The game will kick off on July 1, Wednesday. It remains to be seen which team will come out on top this time.

Notably, both teams are strong at the moment. Hence, we can expect a cracker of a contest from these two teams. India are well ahead of England in the series battle. They have already taken a 2-1 lead in the series.

The visitors will be looking forward to putting on yet another clinical show against the hosts which would help them seal the series. If India manages to pull off a win or a draw, then India would win the series here for the second time.

The last time India won the Test series in England was back in 2007 when they won the series by 2-1. On the other hand, England have always been dominant at home, except for their poor form in Test cricket in the last couple of years.

England are feeling quite comfortable under Ben Stokes and their recent performance against New Zealand goes to show their true quality. Ben Stokes and Co won the series by 3-0.

They will be looking forward to putting on a good show against the Indian cricket team. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma tested positive for coronavirus pandemic. He has been isolated from the rest of his teammates.

Rohit Sharma played a practice game against Leicestershire where he scored 25 runs in the first innings. However, he didn’t come out to play in the second innings.

Moreover, he didn’t come out to practice when all other Indian players practiced for the Edgbaston Test. As per the reports, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to lead the team in Rohit’s absense.

However, there hasn’t been any confirmation regarding who will lead the Indian team. Meanwhile, England all-rounder Moeen Ali has backed Virat Kohli to lead the team in Rohit Sharma’s absence.

Infact, India played incredibly well under Kohli’s captaincy last year as they won two Tests out of the four games. Moeen Ali feels Kohli is the right man to lead India in the final Test.

“Because Virat was the captain earlier in the last series, I would give it (captaincy) to him for this one game. But it is obviously his call if he wants to take it or not. He is probably relaxed and happy, his mind is probably settled with not being the Test captain,” Moeen Ali added.

“He’s got the experience, and to be honest with you, this is a big series for India. If this series was finished last year, India would have won 3-1. But now, I feel the way England has played I think India might be slightly undercooked, due to the lack of cricket in England,” the all-rounder said.
