ENG VS NZ: England cricket team scripted a fantastic 3-0 whitewash over the New Zealand cricket team. The Kiwis found it literally tough to find a way to come out on top in all three games.
Although they had their opportunities, they didn’t make use of it properly. On the other hand, England got hold of the chances to better effect. As a result, they went on to win a hat-trick of games in the Test series.
Talking about England’s performance in the third and final Test, it has been surreal. New Zealand did make their presence count with the bat in the first and second innings.
However, they didn’t have the teeth in the bowling department to pose a threat to the England batters. England beat New Zealand by seven wickets at Headingley, Leeds to complete a 3-0 whitewash over the visitors.
Batting first, New Zealand posted 329 runs on the board and England responded with 360. The visitors posted 326 in the second innings. On the other hand, England aced the run-chase by scoring 296/3.
England won the match but Joe Root won the fans’ hearts for his heartwarming gesture towards New Zealand international Daryl Mitchell.
After England’s win over New Zealand, Joe Root hogged the limelight for his gesture towards Daryl Mitchell. Root made sure that Daryl Mitchell gets a stump after the game.
The New Zealand cricketer played extraordinarily well in the series. He scored 109 with the help of nine boundaries and three hits over the fence in the first innings of the third Test. The 31-year-old right-handed batter also followed it up with a half-century in the second innings.
He has been consistent throughout the series. Rightly so, he was adjudged the man of the series. He drew plaudits for his exceptional batting performance throughout the series.
“As a team we want to come over here and win this series. It didn’t go our way but I’m very proud of the efforts the boys put in throughout. For me, it’s really proud to be part of this group,” Mitchell said at the post-match presentation.
“Any chance to play Test cricket for your country is special. I just try to enjoy each moment and do it wit a smile on my face,” he added.
