England News: It has been a really poor start for England in the UEFA Nations League. The team remains winless in the tournament in 4 games. With the World Cup looming in November, England needs to find their form fast.
England suffered a humiliating loss to Hungary in the Nations League. This is the first time that Hungary has done the double over England in any competition. This was also England’s biggest defeat on their own land since 1928.
There were calls from the crowd that Gareth Southgate “doesn’t know what he is doing”. With immense pressure on the manager, he reacted in a cool way and addressed the situation rationally.
Gareth Southgate has taken complete responsibility as his combination of lineups did not prove effective at all. One could say that this isn’t the best English team but still, this level of performance is below expectations.

It is no secret that many countries are treating the Nations League as a tournament to try out some of their younger players. If you look at the England team there are some big names missing.
Southgate wanted to try out some of his newer recruits but he failed to maintain a balance within the squad. All teams are saving their stars for the World Cup but there still needs to be a respectable 11 that’s being put out there.
As per M.E.N, England has not been able to score a single goal from open play in their 4 matches. Southgate still has to get the linkup between the midfield and attack correctly. This is where Phil Foden and Jack Grealish’s luck might shine.
Foden did feature for England but had to miss this tournament due to covid. Grealish on the other hand was given a chance but wasn’t that impressive. Although, now with the team suffering Grealish might get his chance.

The Nations League might not matter to some but The World Cup, on the other hand, is looming and England needs to settle things down by November. They need a core group of players before they enter the tournament.
There are very few players in the squad who have a permanent claim in the starting lineup. Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, and Kyle Walker are probably the only 3 players who will start consistently.
Mason Mount, Phil Foden, John Stones, Harry Maguire, Jared Bowen, Declan Rice, Bellingham, and Kalvin Phillips, all of them have shown caliber, but none of them have been able to show consistency for England.
This is one issue Southgate will look to deal with as they head into the World Cup. It is a very young English team and finding the right balance will be the key to success. If things do not improve Southagate’s job as head coach could be under imminent threat.
