Ernesto Valverde claims this team is the best in the world

Blaugrana boss Ernesto Valverde has hailed his side as the ‘best team in the world.’ The Barcelona manager claims that his side has only strengthened following the arrival of two new players.

Despite the highly controversial world record sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer that saw Catalan Giants receive a lot of criticism, Barcelona is currently in a very desirable position. They are 16 points ahead of their arch-rivals Real Madrid, who recently suffered a 1-0 home loss to Villarreal. While their closest competition lies in Atletico Madrid who trails them by 6 points and have even played an extra game.

To add to this, Barça recently completed the signing of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool for a mammoth sum earlier this week. Barcelona also completed the signing of the new gem of Colombian football, Yerry Mina for just under €12 Million from Palmeiras. Mina now becomes Barcelona’s second signing this month after Philippe Coutinho. Valverde could not be happier with the players at his disposal as he always believed that he is going to manage the best team in the world following his departure from Atletico Bilbao.

Valverde said: “Well, I’m very happy with the players who I had before the arrival of these two players, and with the ones I had at the end of the summer and with the ones I have now,” he told reporters ahead of Sunday’s trip to Real Sociedad, which Coutinho will miss due to a thigh problem.

“I thought Barca was the best team when I was the coach of Athletic and now I can see that. Barca is the best team in the world.”

Valverde also commented on Yerry Mina’s ability whose arrival will fill the void left by Javier Mascherano who is all set to join the Chinese Giants Hebei China Fortune.

Valverde added: “He’s a player who’s daring in the offensive area of the field. He’s spectacular in the air and defensively as well. Seeing him train, we need to see how he’s going to adapt to the team. That’s something important. He gives us the feeling he can do anything. When might he make his debut? I don’t know. We have to see how he feels. He has to train with the team first. We have a style of play he has to adapt to. We know it’s not easy for defenders and that’s where we think he’s going to play.”

One more man leaving Barca is Arda Turan, who recently agreed to a two and a half year loan switch to Turkish Super Lig club Istanbul Basaksehir. The Turkish midfielder failed to scale the heights he reached with Atletico Madrid and now his loan move runs until the end of his Barcelona contract which runs till June 2020.

Commenting on Arda Turan’s loan move, Valverde said: “He’s a player who was here, he’s very talented. He’s shown it in the time that he was not just here at Barca but at Atletico. Maybe he didn’t have the opportunities he wanted this year, but I have nothing else to say.”

Author’s Take-

Barcelona has been pretty amazing this season. There season surely started with a great disappointment. But they are in a very enviable position now. They have surely evolved better than what fans could have expected after the loss of Neymar. They are off to a flying start this season and are favourites to romp away with the La Liga trophy this season.
