Espanyol Transfer News: Espanyol Is Forced to Sell Their Star Striker

Espanyol Transfer News: Espanyol‘s main man Raul De Tomas has decided to leave his club bizarrely and shockingly.

Former Real Madrid striker has been linked with a summer move to Rayo Vallecano. But the transfer did not materialise.

The Spanish striker spent his youth career at Los Blancos but never made any senior debut. He was loaned out three times to Cordoba, Vallodolid and Rayo Vallecano. During his two years loan spell at Rayo, he scored 38 goals out of 65 matches.

Real Madrid decided to sell their young talent to Benfica on a €20 million transfer fee in 2019. But he failed there miserably with no goals in his account.

After one year of joining the Portuguese giants, Espanyol offered a club-record €20 million transfer fee to Benfica and signed the Spanish striker. De Tomas showed brilliant performance at the Catalonian club with 44 goals out of 85 matches.

Out of Favour at Espanyol

Espanyol had no intention of selling their most expensive player. They were open to letting him go if an offer of more than €30 million, comes. The player had a €75 million release clause in his contract.

But everything went opposite to the club’s favour. The player fell out with manager Diego Martinez. The manager dropped him from the squad and did not allow him to train with the first-team players. So, the club was looking for a better solution to cash in on the player.

Rayo Vallecano tried to sign him this summer, but the club was not very eager to meet Espanyol’s valuation. No deal was stuck before the transfer deadline.

In this process, some controversy happened, as Tomas’ agent, Ivan Garcia physically assaulted Rayo’s President, Raul Martin Presa. He later ended up in a hospital for treatment. The club launched a formal complaint against Garcia.

While appearing with a bandage over his nose Presa spoke: “It was a completely unexpected headbutt.” He also added: “It was the action of criminal, a very cowardly action and a very sh*tty action. Because if he gives me a warning, then we fight.”

This incident did not affect De Tomas’s move, as the club’s Twitter account confirmed De Tomas’s arrival at the club on the 13th of September. Reports suggest that the deal is done for €8 million with €3 million in add-ons. The striker has signed a five-year contract and can make his debut in January.

This move has also been very bad for De Tomas’s career. The forward will not be able to play football between now and January, and this has killed all the possibilities of him featuring in November’s Qatar World Cup.

Manchester United made a late bid for the striker, but it was too late to be materialised. The striker cannot play for his new club until January.
