“He will undoubtedly find his place in our team,” Zenit St Petersburg’s President admitted the interest in signing an Armenian Midfielder from Arsenal.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is the first Armenian ever to play in the English Premier League & the first to win a major European trophy, the UEFA Europa League 2017. The player has evolved alot after the knee injury and has been under the spotlight since then. His performance just grabbed the attention of various managers and presidents among which Russian side Zenit St Petersburg is looking forward to bring him in.

Earlier this month Medvedev said, “All the leading football players of the Europe Championships are under our spotlight. From the perspective of building a team, you should definitely involve players of such level. It’s clear that he has been transferred from Manchester United to Arsenal, has a currently operating contract and is at the peak of his training.

He is 30 years old, and given his physical condition, he can easily play until the age of 35, like Aleksandr Anyukov, Yuri Zhirkov play in our club. He will undoubtedly find his place in our team with his level of playing. I think it would be easy for him to get adapted to the Zenit’s play.

Although, the president does not have any idea when Zenit might make their move. Also, he reportedly admitted that talks have not yet started with Arsenal. At  present, it’s not clear if Mkhitaryan is one of the players who could make way this summer.

His current contract with Arsenal runs until 2021 and Raul Sanllehi has already made it clear that players will be renewed or sold when they get to the final two years of their contracts following the spate of players leaving for nothing over recent seasons.

Mkhitaryan missed out on Arsenal’s victory over his former club Manchester United at the weekend, with the club confirming before the game that he had a ‘slight back issue’. They didn’t officially state when the winger would return, but reports suggest it will be in time for Thursday’s match.

Armenian outlet write that the 30-year-old is set to participate in the Europa League second-leg match, and also report that Mkhitaryan is ‘in line to return against Rennes’.

His form since arriving at Arsenal was slow to get going but since his return from a knee injury earlier in the campaign, he has been a lot better. In fact, he was just voted Arsenal’s Player of the Month for February after scoring two and assisting three.

Author’s take:

The former Manchester United man has been in good form since his return from injury. He has two goals and three assists in seven matches, but it’s more than just goal contributions. The winger’s performances all around have been much improved, It is like a player has transformed. He will only be available for the transfer next year and only if his performance for the club will decline in the future.
