A number of top elite clubs across Europe are planning a swoop for Schalke 04 star Max Meyer in the summer.
Arsenal has been hit with massive competition in the summer as the Gunners were initially the first club who were planning a move for the young midfielder. But Meyer’s performances have been so incredible over the past few months that even the bigger clubs in the continent are preparing to poach him, with serious interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal and many others.
Serie A side AC Milan are also interested in recruiting the talented star but will be dealt a heavy blow when they realize that Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also keeping tabs on Meyer.
Why Meyer is In Demand
The 22-year-old is quite versatile as he can operate as a defensive or attacking midfielder and play on either flank as well. Meyer is one of the most exciting young prospects in Germany and went on to lead his side to the Olympic final against Germany. He is an accomplished passer of the ball and reads the game better than most others on the pitch.
The reason why so many clubs are now interested in Meyer is that he has refused to open a new deal with current club Schalke and he could leave for free in the summer. Arsenal wants a replacement for Jack Wilshere whose future at the Emirates has come under speculation. Barcelona is looking at Meyer as the next possible Xavi at the Camp Nou if a deal for PSG star Marco Verratti does not go through.
Schalke’s Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich are preparing a revamp of the aging star in order to bring in new young faces while AC Milan is on the verge of bringing back the glory days from the past.
Max Meyer is a phenomenal talent and needs to be nourished in order to become a stellar player. He has the traits but moving to a big club so early in his career will add too much pressure on him. I think he would be able to get more game time at Arsenal or AC Milan and should keep a broad mind before making his decision
