Born in Birkhead, Garner joined United at a very early age and progressed through the ranks. However, he could never get a proper run with the first team.
Garner was sent out on loan at EFL Championship outfits Watford ahead of the 2020-21 season. However, he fell out of contention when Xisco Munoz took over the charge. Subsequently, his loan was also terminated.
Garner then joined Nottingham Forrest on loan for the rest of the season. His first spell with the club was fruitful. This resulted in another loan spell for him. This time he helped Forrest reach the Premier League by being a pivotal part of the squad. Garner has also represented the Three Lions in youth stages.
Everton Transfer News: Everton’s bid for James Garner is accepted
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Everton’s bid of around £15/20 million for James Garner has been accepted by the Red Devils.
Although there are a few other clubs, who are still interested in Garner, Everton are very confident to acquire his signings. They are now discussing personal terms and Garner will soon decide his future.
After a frustrating last season, United brought in Eric ten Hag as their manager. Upon his arrival, United have made a lot of signings. They have brought in Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen on a free transfer and Former Real Madrid defensive midfielder Casemiro.
With too much competition in the midfield, Garner was only going down in the pecking order. So finally the Red Devils have decided to cash on him. From the early stages of the transfer window, there were a lot of teams interested in Garner. However, no one was ready to meet United’s valuation of £13 million.
It was finally Everton, who has decided to take a big gamble and splash £15-20 million for the English midfielder.
What does Garner bring?
After a woeful last season and the departure of many big names, Everton desperately needed some new faces in the squad. They added Conor Coady and James Tarkowoski in the defense. The Toffees replaced Richarlison with Brighton striker Neal Maupay and also brought in Dwight Mcnail in the wings.
Everton has also roped in Lille midfielder Amadou Onana. However, Frank Lampard will still like some reinforcements in the midfield. And that’s where garner will fit in. Garner has already shown his potential with Nottingham Forrest last season when he helped them to achieve promotion.
