According to a local Spanish journal, ex-Real Madrid stars Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil wish to be a part of their old club once again. Many of Real fans were disappointed as these two stars chose to leave this club and instead join two of the EPL’s top most clubs.
In a recent interview, the PSG and Arsenal stars have offered themselves back for the 2015-16 Champion League winners. Mesut Ozil made a switch to Arsenal in the year 2013 and was transferred for a record amount of 53.3 million dollars.
Following 2013 transfer of Ozil, Angel Di Maria also did leave the club in 2014 to join Manchester United for a record sum of 74.7 million dollars. However, this star couldn’t excel much under Louis van Gaal and was allowed a transfer PSG a year later.
Although both these players are well settled at their respective clubs, this news out of nowhere has surprised many. However, this report which was published by one of the Bernabeu press room regulars does have some credibility to it.
Published in Marcos, a Spanish newspaper, the report read “They left, and they want to return,” the “exclusive” begins. “They do not find in their current clubs what they had at Real Madrid. They are Mesut Ozil and Angel Di María, two players who were important for the Blancos and who some years later are insisting on a return which would be more than difficult. Both miss what it meant to play for the Madridista club, to live in the Spanish capital, but at the time they gave more priority to the money which Manchester United and Arsenal offered them than to their sporting wellbeing.”
These two stars were very popular in the club and had a huge impact on their game style. While Argentine national, Di Maria was one of the key elements who helped Real defeat Atletico Madrid and win their La Decima, Ozil was the one who helped Real end their eight-year-old drought of La Liga wins.
The decision of Real’s president Florinto Perez was not appreciated when he decided to sell Ozil in order to acquire Gareth Bale. There were chants of Ozil during Bale’s presentation.
Similarly, there were questions raised by fans and even Real’s start Cristiano Ronaldo when Perez decided to sell Champions League final’s man of the match, Di Maria so that he could successfully sign James Rodriguez.
While it may be a rumour, it definitely isn’t something impossible. With Gareth Bale injured and Rodriguez nowhere near the Zinedine’s first eleven, it might be a chance to see a miracle happen.
