Following the conclusion of the 2022 Formula One season, Pierre Gasly started working for his new team, Alpine and testing the brand-new Pirelli tires that will be used in the forthcoming 2023 season.
The Frenchman saw a marked contrast between Alpine’s team culture and that of his previous squad, AlphaTauri, during his initial conversations and runs with Alpine.
Pierre Gasly spoke with the media, including Sportskeeda, about how he was able to identify the car’s capabilities and how the team was able to place fourth in the constructors’ rankings. He was appreciative of the crew as well as the car. By Pierre Gasly
“Even though I’ve only spent a single day in Abu Dhabi. I can already see this car’s potential and several extremely strong points. They had a purpose for finishing fourth in the championship. And now I know it—not just because of the package. But also because of how the squad functions.”
“So far, I’ve been quite happy with these early contacts with the guys,” the engineer said of the team’s engineers, their attitude, and their philosophy.
During the most recent F1 testing at the Yas Marina track, Pierre Gasly also discussed how the new Pirelli tires felt. He clarified that the new tires and the F1 season tires for 2022 are pretty close.
However, the performance of the squad in the new vehicle is still an open question for the next season. Overall, the new team gives the Frenchman optimism.
After Fernando Alonso passed him in the 2022 F1 Brazilian GP, Pierre Gasly was optimistic
Fernando Alonso passed Pierre Gasly during the Brazilian Grand Prix. Gasly was a little relieved to learn that Alpine was a faster vehicle. Even if this would not have been ideal for him during the 2022 Formula One season. After the race, Gasly gave a detailed account of what transpired between him and Alpine in an interview with the F1 Nation podcast. He stated:
“As the race progresses, we then realize Alpine is overtaking us after 20 laps, even with Alonso starting from who knows where… from the heart of Sao Paulo, which is clearly wonderful news for me. I’m delighted to see them playing in that manner.”
Pierre Gasly remarked: “According to what we’ve been told, there isn’t much of a change. And in my experience, the tires don’t seem to act significantly different than they have throughout the season. Of course, there will always be a question mark, but generally, this automobile has provided for my needs.”
The Frenchman wasn’t too upset when the 41-year-old Spaniard passed him because he was due to move from AlphaTauri to Alpine the following year.
