“Checo Wins Races That Max Can’t Win”: Sergio Perez’s Father Speaks Out Against Max Verstappen

The Civil War at Red Bull is at its height following the falling out between Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen. Amidst all of this, Sergio Perez’s father is only adding fuel to the flames.

Ever since the Brazilian Grand Prix, things have gone south between Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen. The whole chaos started off when Verstappen refused to yield his place to the Mexican and refused to help him secure P2 in the driver’s championship.

Max Verstappen was running P6 and Perez was right behind him in P7. Perez was in a close battle with Charles Leclerc for second place in the driver’s championship. Taking sixth place would have helped Perez in his fight against Leclerc.

Verstappen has been the recipient of quite a lot of criticism ever since. Even in Abu Dhabi, when he won the final race of the season and stepped on to the podium for the celebrations, the crowd chanted “Checo-Checo”

In Abu Dhabi, the Dutchman was on a much slower one stop strategy and at a point in time was driving too slow for Perez. Sergio Perez even complained about this on the radio.

Papa Perez believes that Max Verstappen is uncomfortable with how good Sergio Perez is

After the final race of the season, Papa Perez, Sergio Perez’s father spoke with esto.com.mx and said, “Max can already feel Checo’s breath in his helmet .He has never had a similar teammate, the others were much worse. Checo wins races that Max can’t win, the really difficult races.”

What Papa Perez is pointing towards is the 2022 Monaco GP. This is exactly where the cold war between Verstappen and Perez started. During Quali, Sergio Perez spun out on the track and claimed the pole. In the process, he ruined Verstappen’s attempt at claiming the pole.

Starting from the pole, Sergio Perez went ahead and won the race in Monaco. However, people have been very quick to point out that Verstappen, much like a major percentage of people, believes that Perez spun out on purpose so that he could claim pole.

The statement from Perez’s father only goes on to prove just how much the battle has evolved between the two teammates at Red Bull. Usually, if things go even worse, then the team might have to let one driver go. It definitely won’t be Verstappen.

According to reports from F1-insider.com, Verstappen is not at all happy with Perez. He wants Daniel Ricciardo back as his teammate. This is apparently the reason why Red Bull have signed up Ricciardo as their reserve driver.

It’s quite evident that the winter break at Red Bull will be full of drama.
