F1’s rising popularity in the US, according to Daniel Ricciardo, is a contributing factor to Netflix’s Drive to Survive.

Daniel Ricciardo was questioned on the Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert. It was on the current “explosion” in popularity that the sport has had in the United States. And the Australian gave DTS the credit for it. In addition, he stated that the United States’ participation in F1 was “inevitable” given how well-liked the sport is globally.

“The Netflix series ‘Drive to Survive’ is kind of taking off, and I believe that is what has given it international attention. I believe there is a region of the world where it has always been significant. Similar to how F1 has been around for a very long time and has a devoted fan base in Europe,”

Then, Daniel Ricciardo said that he “knew” the sport would become more well-known in the United States because of how seriously the nation takes sports and that it was only a matter of time until it did.

According to Daniel Ricciardo, DTS is largely to blame for the recent surge in popularity the sport has seen. Daniel Ricciardo added:

“I believed it was destined to blow up here because you do sports so well. I knew it was only a matter of time. But I think it accelerated with this Drive to Survive program today.”

Drive to Survive, a Netflix original series debuted in 2019 just before the new season. It was well-liked all around the world and provided a “docudrama” account of the 2018 season. Since then, there has been a significant increase in the sport’s fan base, particularly in the United States.

What chances does Daniel Ricciardo have for the 2018 Formula 1 season?

Daniel Ricciardo was left without a permanent seat after his contract with McLaren was terminated at the conclusion of the 2022 season. There were rumors that the Australian may drive for Williams or Haas.

Later comments from him made it apparent that he was not considering joining a poor team. It was anticipated that he will retire from competitive athletics in 2023 and maybe make a comeback in 2024.

But unexpectedly, Red Bull revealed that they had re-signed Daniel Ricciardo to the team as a backup driver (he was a permanent driver until the 2019 season).

While this does not guarantee that Daniel Ricciardo will compete in racing in 2023, it may present him with more chances, like joining a F1 team that is much more competitive and maybe returning to his winning ways.
