List of Drivers Taking Part in the Post-Season Test in Abu Dhabi

Two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso and F1 debutant Oscar Piastri drove for their new teams for the first time at the post-season test that got underway in Abu Dhabi.

After the end of the season at the Abu Dhabi GP, the teams stayed back for the post-season test. The test was scheduled on Tuesday from 9 am to 6 pm. It was aimed at giving the teams a final opportunity to complete some runs with their 2022 challengers.

Fernando Alonso is leaving Alpine and joining Aston Martin for the 2023 F1 season. He drove the Aston Martin car for the first time during the test.

The Spaniard was the very first driver to get out on the track on Tuesday morning. However, he was seen on the track wearing a blank suit and driving a car with a livery that had no sponsors. This is because of his agreement with Alpine which has still not ended.

Alonso had admitted that the testing was very important to him because it gave him the chance to adapt to the various aspects of the Aston Martin car. These include the seat position and the steering wheel controls. He will be joining the British Team full-time from January 1st.

Oscar Piastri also had the same advantage. His contract was the talk of the paddock throughout the summer as Alpine and McLaren battled it out. Finally, the Contract Recognition Board of F1 ruled in McLaren’s favour.

Piastri drove the McLaren for the first time. In fact, he got into an F1 car for the first time since he announced that he would be signing with the British Team. This is because Alpine had stopped his testing programme when they realized he is no longer an asset to them.

Pierre Gasly was another driver who was seen driving a new car. He drove the Alpine in a blank race suit again due to contractual reasons.

All the teams were mandated to run two cars on Tuesday. One of them is for young drivers – drivers who haven’t made more than two starts in Grands Prix. The other car was for the Pirelli tyre tests.
