After a very successful debut season under the leadership of Mercedes, George Russell is hoping for even better results in the 2017 Formula 1 championship. The new livery for the Brackley-based team will be presented in full on February 15.
George Russell also wished to focus on the significance of Mick Schumacher. The new third driver of the German stable who was hired after his failure to be reappointed at the wheel of Haas, during an interview given to the microphones of “Auto Motor und Sport.”
George Russell stated: “If I were in Mick’s shoes. I would be working hard in the simulator trying to integrate as well as possible with the whole team. He is a very important asset to us. The advice I would give him is to lock himself in that room and do as many laps as he can so he can form the team as much information as he can,”
Potential competitors have been warned by George Russell that Mercedes is prepared to compete for the title this year. Before the 2022 F1, the German squad had an eight-year winning streak. Since 2013, they had not finished outside the top two and had not suffered a title loss.
But everything changed after the 2022 season. Because the vehicle was just subpar, both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell could only place the vehicle in third place overall in the championship as Mercedes also lost to Ferrari.
The 2023 season is anticipated to be better, and George Russell was unambiguous in his assessment of the team’s chances. The young Mercedes driver believes that the team is prepared to return to its history of winning championships.

According to Toto Wolff, if Mick Schumacher is given the chance to race for another team, Mercedes will let him leave. The squad manager used Nyck de Vries as an illustration, saying:
“His personality is the most crucial component. He is a young man with good education, intelligence, and talent. As you can see, he had a very strong junior career track record. If we can provide him with a secure atmosphere to grow. I think he may become a successful racing driver in the future.”
This season, Mick Schumacher’s future will be a heated subject, and it is uncertain whether the German will be able to secure a position on the starting grid.
