Mercedes Pays Special Tribute to F1 Legend Niki Lauda

After receiving consent from the local government and Lauda’s family, Mercedes made the decision to memorialize Lauda at Team HQ.

The road has been renamed “Lauda Drive,” and it runs through the middle of the Mercedes technological park. The memorial was unveiled in front of Mercedes employees, under the direction of Toto Wolff.

Wolff showed Lauda respect and praised the icon. He said that while Niki Lauda would have appreciated the gesture, he would not have wanted the fuss. The Mercedes team gathered together to honor the legacy of a legendary driver, and it was a solemn occasion. Quoting Wolff

“It was wonderful to see the Niki Lauda Drive team members assemble to witness the unveiling. It is really an honor to do so. Although he wouldn’t have wanted us to make a big deal out of it, our close friend and coworker Niki Lauda would be honored to have this route dedicated in his honor.”

“Working with him was a pleasure for all of us, and I had the good fortune to call him a close friend. He was a vital part of our success, a terrific opponent for me in debates, and a solid non-executive chairman who we will miss terribly.”
