Why Christian Horner Opposes Andretti’s Attempt to Field Their Eleventh F1 Team

Christian Horner confirmed that the team’s finances are the only factor in the alleged resistance to Andretti’s attempt to launch a new team on the Formula One grid.

In an interview with RACER, Christian Horner stated that on the racing front. There was no objection to having Andretti’s team on the F1 grid. However, when it came to money, the opposition got involved.

The degradation of value that would result from the addition of an 11th club is something that the existing 10 teams do not want to accept, which is why they have been against it. Christian Horner stated:

“Look, Andretti is a fantastic team and brand. Mario accomplished an amazing job in Formula 1 as an American driver. I don’t think there can be any disagreement that GM and Cadillac would be two fantastic brands to have in the sport.”

“The question of ‘Well, who’s going to pay for it?’ is ultimately what matters in all of these situations, he said. And it stands to reason that the teams won’t take kindly to it if they’re thought to be footing the bill or reducing their compensation to make room for it.”

“The Liberty team, on the other hand, is heard responding, ‘Well, we’re not going to pay for it. From an operational standpoint, we’re content with 10 robust, competing franchises – garages, logistics, motorhomes — it’s all more to accommodate.’ They probably prefer the Audi business model. In which they enter the market and buy an established franchise.”
