Manchester United have been revitalized under new boss and former striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who replaced Jose Mourinho at the helm
The Red Devils have won 8 on the trot under the former Norwegian international. In the process, they have also eaten up the gap between them and the top 4 sides. Currently, they trail Chelsea, who are 4th in the table, by just 4 points. Many of their stars who were struggling for consistency under Mourinho have now emerged as United’s best players. The likes of Victor Lindelof and Paul Pogba are among these. However, unfortunately, some players have fallen down the pecking order under Solskjaer and their contributions have been restricted from the bench, more often the not. Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini is one such player, who is not particularly favored by Solskjaer.
The 31 year old has just played 3 minutes in United’s last 6 premier league games. Overall, he has had just 31 minutes of football under his belt ever since Solskjaer took charge of the club. And it is now being understood that Fellaini is all set to join Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng Taishan. He will be joining former Southampton forward Graziano Pelle there.
Fellaini was a firm favourite of Jose Mourinho. So much so that Mourinho even got the 31 year old to sign an extension last summer, thereby keeping him at Old Trafford till 2020. However, now that Mourinho has gone, it seems like Fellaini leaving is the right decision, both, for the club as well as the player himself.
Marouane Fellaini was bought by Manchester United from Everton in the summer of 2013 for a fee of approximately 29 million pounds. Since then, the Belgian has made 177 appearances for the club across all competitions. During this time, he found the back of the net 22 times and assisted another 12 times. He has won the FA Cup, the Community Shield, the Europa league and the League cup during his time with the Red Devils.
While Fellaini wasn’t always the first name on the team sheet, he was one of United’s most important players coming off the bench and scored some crucial goals for them.
