The future of Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta is expected to be revealed this week ahead of the final stages of the season.

One of the greatest players to have played for Spanish giants, Barcelona, Andres Iniesta might be on his way to the Chinese League this summer according to BBC Sports. Having won the Copa Del Rey title against Sevilla on Saturday with a 5-0 win, the Spaniard has won 31 trophies with the Blaugrana. The 33-year-old displayed a fine performance and was also able to get on the score sheet in what may have been his last final for the club. “I will say what the decision is this week,” he said after the match. “I think it’s a little clear but we will see.”
The Spanish international has made 670 appearances for Barça during his time with the club. Spanning a glittering 16-year professional career, Iniesta has won four Champions League titles and eight La Liga titles. He is also expected to record a ninth La Liga title under his belt with the Catalans leading the League table with 12 points. Barça needs just three more points to secure the League and that too with an unbeaten record.

Barca teammate Ivan Rakitic however, does not want Iniesta to leave the club and rather insists that the midfielder should stay. When asked about Iniesta’s decision, the Croatian said: “I don’t know, I hope he doesn’t [leave]. He knows it, I think fans want him with us as much as I want that, but as I always said he has to make a choice, he has to discuss it with his family. His decision will be respected by all of us.”

In the international scene, Iniesta has 125 caps for the national side along with a World Cup and a European Championship trophy to his name.

Author’s take:

If Iniesta leaves or stays with the club, current reports surrounding the midfielder’s are a proof of changing times at the Nou Camp. Iniesta has been a prolific player and leader for the club and was an inspiration not only for the club but also youngsters all over the world.
Whether he decides to leave or not is entirely up to him. The fact of the matter is that his legacy at Barcelona will remain with him wherever he goes.
