The La Liga champions wants Rashford to replace Suarez and it seems the Englishman has made his mind.
Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is one of three players on Barcelona’s summer wishlist, according to reports from Spain. The Red Devils youngster has been catching the eye on the continent in recent months after he showed nerves of steel to score a match-winning penalty in United’s dramatic Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain. Barcelona are in the market for a new attacker after losing faith in Luis Suarez and have placed Marcus Rashford on a three-man shortlist to replace him. Marcus Rashford has made a decision on his future amidst of Barcelona links.
Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has ‘no desire’ to leave the club despite reports that Barcelona are lining up a £100million move for him. The La Liga giants are said to view Rashford, 21, as the perfect long-term replacement for Luis Suarez who turned 32 in January. Rashford is out of contract in 2020 – though United have the option to extend that by a further 12 months – and the striker is yet to agree to an extension despite months of negotiations. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival has been a blessing for Rashford, who has been freed by the Norwegian in a central forward position. According to recent reports, Rashford has ‘no desire’ to leave his boyhood club and would reject a move to the Camp Nou. The Catalan club are understood to feel they can take advantage of Rashford’s failure to sign a contract extension by bringing him to the Nou Camp in a £100million deal. Barca, who face United in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at Old Trafford on April 10, are said to be ready to make a bid for the England striker, who is out of contract in 2020.
United are continuing to hold talks with Rashford and his representatives over a new long-term deal that would see his wages double to £150,000-a-week, potentially rising to £200,000-a-week with add-ons. It is understood the 21-year-old has no desire to leave his boyhood club, but United want to agree an extension with him as quickly as possible, to keep Barca at bay and avoid a summer of speculation over Rashford’s future. The player became disillusioned under former United boss Jose Mourinho, but has thrived under caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with eight goals in 18 appearances under the Norwegian, who has played him in his favoured position through the middle. Suarez has scored 18 goals in 27 La Liga games for the Catalan giants this season but has failed to strike in six appearances in the Champions League and Barcelona are now preparing to replace the 32-year-old this summer.
Manchester United will be delighted to hear Rashford not leaving Old Trafford. The lure of Barcelona, though, is difficult to turn down for any player and United knows it would provide Rashford with the chance to play with Lionel Messi in his twilight years.
