FC Barcelona target Luka Jovic instead of Antoine Griezmann. Barcelona do not want to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid with Luka Jovic being the potential transfer target, according to report
The transfer saga between Antoine Griezmann and Barcelona was prolonged before he decided to stay put at Atletico Madrid last summer. The French International decided to extend his contract until 2023 at Wanda Metropolitano following the Europa League triumph under Diego Simeone
According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona are now looking forward to rather sign Luka Jović over Antoine Griezmann next summer. Barcelona have been hunting the Luka Jovic for quite a sometime and have been impressed with his extraordinary performance in Bundesliga.
Big clubs like Bayern Munich, City, Tottenham Hotspur, United and Chelsea have followed him. He’s still a Benfica player but Frankfurt can buy him for 20m euros at the end of the month
And as far as Griezmann is considered, the Frenchman also is looking forward to exit Athletico Madrid and join Barca. However, his age, cost and previous rejection of Barca has to be looked after before taking any transfer step.
Griezmann who is 28, has a cost value of 120 million euro, followed by an enormous salary. And the fact that they had supposed to join Barca last season but denied at the end moment and decided to remain in Athletico Madrid. His decision was quite public as he made the aforementioned decision on a live Television documentary which was an embarrassing thing for Barca.
On the other hand, Jović is just 21 and hence will be budget friendly in terms of transfer fees as well as salary also if he signs, he will initially be Luis Suárez’s backup most probably, but will, replace him gradually.
And hence, for now, the club think the latter, with Luka Jovic preferred to Antoine Griezmann.
Ernesto Valverde’s side are looking for a player of a different profile to lead the attack. Luka Jovic is in their sights with the 21-year-old enjoying a fine season at Eintracht Frankfurt. The Serbia international has bagged a stunning 22 goals from 35 outings so far this season. And that form has prompted Barcelona to ponder over whether signing him permanently from Benfica in the summer.
