Manchester United came out against Feyenoord in the Europa league tie to put forward an exhilarating performance after the derby defeat. Mourinho made quite a few changes to give starts to some players who didn’t get their chance till now but a tedious performance from them didn’t help Mourinho’s cause who suffered a second defeat in one week.
There were a lot of questions on United’s stars including world record signing Paul Pogba and manager Jose Mourinho after a home loss to United’s and Mourinho’s arch nemesis’ Manchester City and Pep Guardiola but their loss to Feyenoord has left United faithfuls in disdain.
We rate the United players on their performance against Feyenoord:
DAVID DE GEA – 6/10
Had very little to do all through the game but let down by his defenders for Feyenoord’s goal from a great counter attack.
MATTEO DARMIAN – 5/10
Looked out of pace and was left to cover shadows at times. His crosses were much better at the start of the game but his attacking game faded as the game grew.
ERIC BAILLY – 6/10
Again a solid performance from the Ivorian as he made some important tackles and looked relaxed on the ball. Had a injury scare in the first half but recovered later on in the game.
CHRIS SMALLING – 5.5/10
Looked solid on his return although he had to play on the wrong side of his preferred foot and looked to have made a case for himself as an option for CB.
MARCUS ROJO – 4/10
Weakest performer for United on the night, looked a lot exposed and Feyenoord had a got at his flank, the cross for Feyenoord’s goal too came from his side.
ANDER HERRERA – 5.5/10
Got a start after his impressive second half display against City. Started alongside Schneiderlin in a double pivot role and did well marauding forward.
MORGAN SCHNEIDERLIN – 5/10
The Frenchman got his first start under Mourinho after few substitute appearances. Made some few good interceptions and was solid in the middle of the park for the first half of the game.
JUAN MATA – 5.5/10
Being played on the wings to provide width to United’s attack he failed to do so and was substituted at the halftime.
PAUL POGBA – 5/10
A game in which critics of Pogba’s tactical nous will gain ammunition. Provided plenty of momentary drama but little result from his runs forward; undisciplined when defending in midfield.
ANTHONY MARTIAL – 5/10
He hasn’t been at his usual best from last season but he looked go take on defenders and almost put United up front after his shot was just wide of the target.
MARCUS RASHFORD – 6/10
Teenager got his first start after some exhilarating substitute performances. Surrounded by 2-3 players throughout his time on the pitch, a couple of heavy touches too. Couldn’t make the impact as expected.
ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC – 6/10
Changed the game slightly with his physical presence.
ASHLEY YOUNG – 5/10
Squandered a great chance at the end of game.
MEMPHIS DEPAY – 5/10
Made a key covering tackle when United were throwing the kitchen sink forward.
