Son Heung-min, the South Korean captain, has apologized to fans for not living up to their expectations at the FIFA World Cup. The Taegeuk Warriors were eliminated from the competition after suffering a 4-1 defeat against Brazil in a round-of-16 tie at Stadium 974 on Tuesday.
South Korea are yet to win a FIFA World Cup knockout tie outside their home country. They reached the quarter-finals of the competition in 2002, which was held in South Korea. The Taeguek Warriors have been waiting for a knockout tie win since then.
South Korea captain Son Heung-min has apologized to the fans in the aftermath of the Brazil vs South Korea game.
Speaking to the media, he said: “I can only apologise to our fans for not living up to their expectations. We did our best but I think we played a very difficult game. Still, there is no doubt that all the players battled proudly, devoted themselves, and worked hard to get this far.“

Brazil attacker Richarlison has sent a heartfelt message to Tottenham teammate Son Heung-min in the aftermath of Brazil vs South Korea.
On his social media account, he posted a picture of himself hugging the South Korean captain Son Heung-min. The photo was captioned, “I know how hard you fought to be here and that’s why you’re a hero to your people.”
Richarlison has been in excellent form this FIFA World Cup. He has registered three goals in three appearances so far. The Brazilian is among the leading contenders to win the Golden Shoe at the FIFA World Cup.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old attacker joined Tottenham Hotspur from Everton during the last summer’s transfer window. He has struggled to get going at the club, failing to score a single goal in 10 Premier League appearances for the London outfit. However, a good World Cup campaign with Brazil will give him massive confidence boast going forward.
