Argentina national football team became the FIFA World Cup champions at Qatar 2022, defeating France in the final. The game was decided on penalties after the two sides remained locked in a draw at the end of normal time and extra time. In the penalty, Argentina pipped France 4-2 to clinch the FIFA World Cup for the third time in their country’s history.
It was Lionel Messi’s first ever FIFA World Cup title win. The coveted trophy had eluded him until then in his trophy laden career, but the 35-year-old finally lifted the trophy at Qatar 2022.
After Argentina’s FIFA World Cup title win, Lionel Messi posted a series of photos on Instagram with a heartfelt caption. It has garnered over 58 million likes at the time of writing, and has become the most liked post in Instagram history.

The record for the most liked post on Instagram was previously held by an image of an egg. That image garnered more than 56m likes. But, Lionel Messi’s post after winning the FIFA World Cup title has 2m likes more than the image of the egg at the time of the writing.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi also recently surpassed 400 million followers on Instagram. At the time of the writing, his Instagram followers count stands at 403m.
However, Lionel Messi is not the most followed person on Instagram. The holder of that record is Cristiano Ronaldo, who has a staggering 520 million followers on the platform.
