Real Madrid President Florentino Perez identifies Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp as a replacement for Zinedine Zidane
The club hierarchy at Real is on the lookout for a new man to take over the Madrid’s managerial role. Although Zinedine Zidane is not under that much pressure, he still has an axe swinging over his head. There have been persistent rumours of Madrid lining up a list of possible replacements for Zidane.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been linked to the Bernabeu hot seat recently. However, as per reports emerging in Spain, Club President Florentino Perez favours German tactician Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool recently lost Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, and they are set to lose their manager at the hands of Madrid.
Will Jurgen Klopp succeed Zidane at the Bernabeu?
The Reds haven’t yet recovered from the loss of Coutinho, and there could be more bad news coming. According to Mi Otra Liga, Florentino Perez has deemed Klopp as a possible successor to Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman is under no immediate pressure, as of now. However, he knows he will have to deliver or else he shall perish.
Barcelona prevailed over Real Madrid in the Clasico, opening up a massive 14 point lead in the league over their rivals. With the Blaugrana succeeding in their pursuit of Coutinho, they look destined to win the La Liga. Elsewhere, in the Champions League, Los Blancos will have to take on the mighty Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16.
With a danger of finishing the season trophyless, Perez has named his numero uno choice in Jurgen Klopp. The German has been at the helm of the Anfield since October 2015 but has failed to win a single major trophy during his reign. Following in the footsteps of Coutinho could be a mouth-watering prospect for the manager.
Zinedine Zidane’s days in Madrid seem numbered, and Perez is an impatient man. He relieved Carlo Ancelotti of his duties as a consequence of Real failing to win any silverware in 2014-15. That came just one season after Ancelotti led Real to the much coveted ‘La Decima’ title. Los Blancos managed to retain their Champions League crown last season but the road ahead looks extremely challenging.
It remains to be seen just how patient Perez can be this time around. However, he has already started planning for the day Zidane steps down. In my perspective, Klopp is a better trainer than Conte. The German has forged an impressive record during his stint in the Premier League. He will be the better choice among the two managers mooted to replace Zizou.
