Attending a Q&A session in Glasgow named as ‘An Evening with Pele’, the football icon, Pele argued that Lionel Messi’s incredible achievements over the last decades makes him the best player in the world above Cristiano Ronaldo.

In Pele’s point of view, Cristiano is more of a goalscoring footballer whereas Messi is a ‘more organised’ and an all-rounder.

‘I could mention some names but what has happened in the last 10 to 15 years, I think Messi is the player who was the most consistent all those years, no doubt,’ said the 75-year-old.

‘We have had a lot of good players. Then Cristiano Ronaldo came late but it is different because Messi is the more organised, he scores goals.’

Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to win his fourth Ballon d’Or award later in December, after helping Real Madrid to win the UEFA Champions League in May, while winning the Euros with Portugal in July this year. Nevertheless, the three-time World Cup winner, Pele, insists that Messi is the best player in the world.

‘Cristiano Ronaldo is like the Ronaldo from Brazil, he is a good scorer no doubt, but to me as a player it is Messi,’ Pele spoke.

Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have totally controlled over the Best Player of the Year award since 2008, with Messi receiving the honor five times, while Cristiano Ronaldo got the award on three occasions.

The dominance of the two players could be seen with the fact that the last player to win the Ballon d’Or instead of Messi or Ronaldo was, Brazilian legend, Ricardo Kaka, way back in 2007.

Meanwhile, FIFA officials also declared this morning, that they have ended their association with France Football over the merged, FIFA Ballon d’Or and might go back to their old method of giving their own World Player of the Year trophy.
