AC Milan Confident of Extending Rafael Leao’s Contract

Rafael Leao: AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has said they are confident of keeping Portugal national football team youngster Rafael Leao at the club.

Rafael Leao has established himself as one of the best young talents in Europe. The 23-year-old Portuguese international was crucial for AC Milan as they secured the Serie A title in the 21/22 season.

Leao has been playing for AC Milan since signing for the Italian outfit in the summer of 2019. He joined AC Milan from Ligue 1 side Lille. Since signing for AC Milan, the Portugal international has featured in 135 games across all competitions for the Serie A side and has amassed 34 goals.

Rafael Leao signed a five-year contract with AC Milan upon joining the club in 2019. He has not renewed his contract with Milan since. His current deal with Milan expires in 2024. That means he has less than two years left on his current deal with the Serie A behemoths.

AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has revealed they are confident they can extend Rafael Leao’s stay at the club beyond the expiry of his current deal. Scaroni also revealed that the Portuguese attacker is happy at the club.

He also revealed Paolo Maldini is taking care of the contract renewal negotiations with Leao and that they are ‘confident’ and ‘relaxed’ the forward will put pen to paper on a new deal at the club.

He has made 14 appearances for Milan in the Serie 22/23 campaign and has scored six goals and registered five assists. In the Champions League 22/23 campaign, he has made five appearances and has scored a goal, and amassed four assists.

Meanwhile, Milan currently sits second in the Serie A points table. With 33 points from 15 matches, Milan are eight points short of table-toppers Napoli. Napoli occupies the top position with 41 points from 15 matches.
