Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana has announced he has retired from international football. On Friday, Andre Onana took to social media to announce his retirement from international football.
Andre Onana was part of the Cameroon national football team squad that participated at FIFA World Cup 2022. He started for Cameroon in their opening game at Qatar World Cup 2022, against Switzerland in a Group G fixture.
However, he was not in the Cameroon team for their second Group G fixture at Qatar 2022 after reportedly falling out with Cameroon manager Rigobert Song. Speaking after Cameroon’s 3-3 draw with Serbia in a Group G fixture, Song explained that Onana was not in the squad due to disciplinary reasons.
He also left Cameroon national football team squad before their match against Serbia and was also not part of the squad that took on Brazil in their final Group G fixture.
Andre Onana announces retirement from international football

Andre Onana confirmed on Friday that he has retired from international football, stating that his story with Cameroon national team has reached its end.
“Every story, however beautiful it may be, always has its end. And my story with the Cameroon national team has reached this point. Players come and go, but Cameroon always comes before any person or player,” Andre Onana said in a statement.
“Cameroon will always remain the same as my love for the national team shirt and for our people who have always supported us regardless of the difficulties.
“My feelings have not changed. My Cameroonian heart will keep beating, and wherever it goes, it will fight to always raise the flag of Cameroon as high as possible.
“I will continue to support Cameroon as a fan, just like 27 million Cameroonians do at every game. I can only thank all those who trusted me and believed that I could contribute to the team.”

Andre Onana made his debut Cameroon national football team in 2016. He has since featured in 34 games for Cameroon. 14 of those appearances came in 2022, with his final appearance for Cameroon coming in their 1-0 defeat to Switzerland at FIFA World Cup 2022.
At the club level, Andre Onana plays for Inter Milan, who signed him on a five-year contract in the summer of 2022. He has since featured in seven games for the Italian behemoths.
