What is Benfica’s stance as Chelsea set to revive interest in Enzo Fernandez?

Record report that Benfica have not changed their stance on Enzo Fernandez and will only sell the Argentine midfielder if his release clause is paid in full.
Enzo Fernandez, who Benfica signed from Argentine side River Plate in the summer transfer window of 2022, has a £106m release clause in his contract. However, Chelsea have not yet triggered that option.
Since joining Benfica, Enzo Fernandez has featured in 28 games across all competitions for the Portuguese heavyweights. He has also scored four goals and racked up seven assists for Benfica so far in the 22/23 season.
The 22-year-old also enjoyed an impressive FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign with Argentina. He was part of the Argentina national football team that won the title in Qatar in 2022.
For his performances for Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2022, Fernandez was also named the young player of the tournament.
Enzo Fernandez’s current contract with Benfica runs until 2027. That means he has more than four years left on his current deal with the Portuguese outfit.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if Chelsea will be willing to trigger Fernandez’s release clause and sign the highly-rated youngster before the January transfer window closes.
Chelsea have also been linked with a number of other midfielders as they look to bolster their squad. The Stamford Bridge outfit recently saw a bid of £55m for Moises Caicedo rejected by Brighton & Hove Albion.
Enzo Fernandez’s Argentine teammate and Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is another player in Chelsea’s sights, according to The Guardian.
