Neuhaus enjoyed an underwhelming 2021-22 season according to his usual high standards. He played 28 Bundesliga games last term, registering four goals and four assists.

The German international pledged to make an improvement in his performance in an interview in July. He said: “The past season was not satisfactory for all of us, and I absolutely include myself in that. I know that I can do better, but I don’t think everything was bad, because things went quite well in some phases. I want to bring the quality I have back onto the pitch in full. I wasn’t able to consistently perform well last season, and I want to change that.”
