His sensational performances for Argentina at Qatar 2022 have helped Lionel Messi win the Best FIFA Men’s Player award. Messi finished ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema in the voting to win the award.
Cesc Fabregas, who is also a former teammate of Lionel Messi, believes the Argentine’s award win was deserved. “Everything is very complex in these awards. Mbappé is very talented, and Benzema made one of the best Champions in history,” Cesc Fabregas told El Larguero [via Barca Universal].
“Leo, for his part, did well in Paris and then did what he did in the World Cup, which has a lot of weight. If a player wins it for his performance in the World Cup, it is deserved.”
On Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas said: “Sentimentally, he will always be a Barça player. I don’t know what his future will be, but I’m sure he’s going to fight to compete at the top.”
On a potential Barcelona return for Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas added: “I hope Messi returns to Barcelona, but these are very personal decisions.”
