Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has confirmed that Kylian Mbappe is the club’s vice-captain, a decision he says they made at the start of the 22/23 season.
Kylian Mbappe captained Paris Saint-Germain when the French heavyweights faced Pays de Cassel in the round of 32 of the French Cup. PSG romped their way to a 7-0 win in the game, with Kylian Mbappe scoring five goals for the defending Ligue 1 champions.
Kylian Mbappe was thought to have captained PSG in the absence of Marquinhos – the club captain – and Presnel Kimpembe and Marco Verratti, who wore the captain’s armband in the absence of the Brazilian when they faced Auxerre in Ligue 1 in their final game before FIFA World Cup 2022.
However, Christophe Galtier confirmed after their match that Kylian Mbappe has been their vice-captain since the start of the 22/23 season.

Kylian Mbappe deserves to have captain’s armband in the absence of Marquinhos, says Christophe Galtier

Speaking after the match, Christophe Galiter said Kylian Mbappe deserves to have the armband in the absence of Marquinhos, who is PSG’s captain.
“We decided at the start of the season that Kylian Mbappé should be the second captain. He deserves to have this armband when Marquinhos is absent,” Christophe Galtier said.
Christophe Galtier also spoke about Mbappe’s sensational performance for PSG in their rout of Pays de Cassel.
“Kylian Mbappe’s a goalscorer, he’s obsessed with goals and attacking. I’m not going to say he’s going to gain confidence [from scoring five goals], but he’s up to his standard. It was important for him and Neymar to play the full game. They combined a lot and looked after each other a lot. It was good for them.”
Kylian Mbappe has been in stellar form for Paris Saint-Germain in the ongoing campaign. The Frenchman has featured in 24 games across all competitions for the club in the ongoing campaign.
He has scored 25 goals in those matches and has also provided six assists. 13 of those goals have come in the Ligue 1 while he has also racked up seven goals in the Champions League, where PSG have qualified for the round-of-16.
Meanwhile, PSG, who sit atop the Ligue 1 points table with 47 points from 19 matches, will take on Reims in their next match in the French top-flight.
