Former Marseille defender Basile Boli has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo held talks with the Ligue 1 club over a transfer last summer.
Cristiano Ronaldo was linked with a move away from Manchester United in the summer transfer window of 2022. The 37-year-old was linked with a number of clubs, but a move never materialized.
He eventually ended up staying at the Old Trafford outfit, where his stay was recently cut short after Manchester United terminated his contract by mutual consent. The Red Devils parted ways with the Portuguese superstar following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.
Ronaldo criticized Manchester United, the Glazer family, and manager Erik ten Hag among many others in the interview with Piers Morgan. Manchester United then decided to terminate Ronaldo’s contract by mutual consent.

Cristiano Ronaldo should have come to Marseille, says Basile Boli

Basile Boli believes Cristiano Ronaldo should have come to Marseille last summer. He believes Ronaldo still has something to give in Ligue 1.
“Cristiano Ronaldo was in talks with Olympique [Marseille], I think he should have come. He is a talented player, even if he is a bit old, I think that in the French championship he still has something to give. We saw that, for Messi, it didn’t work out in the first year and then in the second year he proved he was number one,” Basile Boli, who is now an ambassador for Marseille, told NW TV [via GOAL].
Cristiano Ronaldo is currently a free agent after parting ways with Manchester United. He has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, who reports have claimed have tabled a staggering contract offer to the Portuguese superstar. However, Al-Nassr recently played down such suggestions.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo endured a disappointing campaign at FIFA World Cup 2022. His hopes of winning the World Cup title in Qatar 2022 ended when Morocco knocked Portugal out of the competition in the quarter-final.
Ronaldo featured in all five games for Portugal at Qatar 2022 but started in only three. He scored one goal for Portugal at the latest edition of FIFA World Cup 2022 – converting a penalty in their win 3-2 win over Ghana.
Portugal manager Fernando Santos dropped Ronaldo to the bench in their round-of-16 and quarter-final matches, but he did come off the bench as a substitute in those matches.
