Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was full of praise for Bruno Fernandes after the Portuguese attacker delivered an impressive performance in the Red Devils’ win over Real Betis in the Europa League round of 16 first leg.
Manchester United took on Real Betis at Old Trafford in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16. The Red Devils cruised to a 4-1 win over the Spanish side in that game.
The game against Real Betis was Manchester United’s first match since the heavy 7-0 defeat they suffered at the hands of fierce rivals Liverpool in the Premier League. Manchester United bounced back from that defeat in majestic fashion as they waltzed their way into a 4-1 win over Real Betis.
Bruno Fernandes, who captains Manchester United when Harry Maguire is not in the playing XI, was impressive for the Red Devils as they got the better of Real Betis. Fernandes was heavily criticized for his performance and on-field behaviour in Man Utd’s defeat to Liverpool. But the Portuguese international bounced back from it in stellar fashion. He bagged a goal and an assist in Manchester United’s win over Real Betis.

Speaking after Manchester United defeated Real Betis 4-1, Erik ten Hag lavished praise on Bruno Fernandes.
Erik ten Hag named Bruno Fernandes as the best player on the pitch as Manchester United all but sealed their place in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
“He was the best player on the pitch and it showed his personality,” Erik ten Hag said. “He played in a little bit of a deeper role tonight, he was brilliant.“
Erik ten Hag added: “He was a leader in playmaking from deep and controlling the rhythm of the game. He had a lot of good passes in between the lines and from there on we created a lot of chances.”
Against Real Betis, Manchester United took the lead through a stellar strike from Marcus Rashford in the sixth minute. However, Real Betis equalized through Ayoze Perez in the 32nd minute.
Antony sent Manchester United ahead on 52 minutes before Bruno Fernandes made it 3-1 in the 58th minute. Wout Weghorst then added to Man Utd’s tally in the 82nd minute as they established a three-goal cushion.
