Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has described their second-half performance in their humiliating defeat to Liverpool as ‘unprofessional’ and admitted that his players lost their heads.
Manchester United suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat at the hands of fierce rivals, Liverpool, at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday. The Red Devils trailed the game by a goal in the first half, but a disastrous performance in the second half allowed Liverpool to run riot.
With two goals inside the first five minutes of the second half, Liverpool made it 3-0 in the 50th minute of the match. Manchester United needed a stunning comeback to salvage something from the game, but that never happened.
Liverpool ripped Manchester United apart and goals in the 66th, 75th, 83rd, and 88th minute saw the Merseyside outfit pile further misery on Erik ten Hag and co.

Speaking after the humbling they received from Liverpool, Erik ten Hag branded their performance in the second half as ‘unprofessional’. The Red Devils conceded six goals in a disastrous second half against Liverpool.
He also admitted his Manchester United players lost their heads during the thrashing and said that they did not play as a team.
“The second half was unprofessional. It can’t happen and we have to talk about it,” Erik ten Hag said [via 90min]. “It was about the whole team, I saw 11 individuals losing their heads. That is not Manchester United, we have higher standards.

“I think we played a decent first half. One mistake in organisation just before half-time. Second half it was just not us. It was not our standards. We didn’t play as a team.”
Manchester United had come into the game against Liverpool on the back of four consecutive wins and would not have expected to be at the receiving end of a thrashing of such magnitude.
Manchester United continues to sit third in the Premier League points table despite the defeat. But they trail table-toppers Arsenal by 14 points although they have played a game less than the Gunners have played in the Premier League so far this season.
Manchester United will be aiming to return to winning ways when they take on Real Betis in the Europa League round of 16 first leg in their next match.
