But after the 2014 FIFA World Cup, disaster struck the football team. The Netherlands missed out on both the UEFA Euro 2016 in France and the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia.

Frank de Boer was sacked as the Dutch manager after a round of 16 exit in the UEFA Euros last summer. Following this, Louis Van Gaal was given the hot seat and a chance to lead the Oranje in the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
