After falling to ATK Mohun Bagan by a score of 1-2 on Thursday at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium in Kolkata, the Highlanders were eliminated from playoff contention for the sixth time in a row.
After allowing the opponent to take the lead in the first half of the game, the team coached by Marco Balbul equalised in the 81st minute thanks to a spectacular header from defender Aaron Evans.
However, the clinical brilliance displayed by Subhasish Bose in the final seconds of the game gave the advantage to the Mariners and prevented the Highlanders from coming back with a point.

The host team took the lead in the first half thanks to a goal made by Liston Colaco, but Balbul’s squad equalised the score near the end of the second half when Subhashish Bose scored the game-winning goal.

Following a string of five defeats, it would have been an enormous three points for us, and it would have provided a new beginning for my team. It pains me to even bring up the subject of luck, but the odds were definitely stacked against us.
Before giving up late in the game, we had a number of chances to score, but we missed them all. What are your thoughts on the way the game is played? The first half featured little activity whatsoever, but the goal scored late in the game was a gift.
The pitch was the result of a lot of hard work from all of us, but there was just one mistake. We failed to perform adequately at a crucial juncture. We shouldn’t be giving major teams advantages like that, and we also need to be better at handling the ball.
When we have possession of the ball, we ought to be more confident. ATK Mohun Bagan scored two goals that, in my opinion, were a gift, despite the fact that they are aware that their counterattack is the primary factor in their success.
