Football News: Brentford forward Ivan Toney finally gets his debut national team call-up after his consistent performance throughout the last few years.

A Northampton Town youth product, Toney became the youngest player to represent them in 2012. Toney played three seasons for Northampton and scored twelve goals in sixty appearances. He then joined Newcastle United. However, Toney failed to impress in the Magpies shirt and then had multiple loan spells with Barnsley, Shrewsbury Town, Scunthorpe United, and Wigan Athletic.

He finally joined Peterborough United in 2018 and in his second season with the club, Toney finally started to blossom. Toney became the League One top scorer in the 2019-20 season and then joined Championship club Brentford. In his first season with Brentford, he scored a staggering number of 31 goals as Brentford sealed promotion to the Premier league.

Toney continued his brilliant form in the English Premier League too and put up great numbers in the English top tier as Brentford impressed everyone with their interesting brand of football.

Meanwhile, the England team was struggling with injuries as Manchester United forward Marcus Rahsford became the latest addition to the list. The 24-year-old Rashfford caught an injury in United’s 3-1 victory over Arsenal. Rashford has been ruled out for United’s Europa League tie against Sheriff Tiraspol.

With Rashford out with injury, there were not many options who can give competition to Harry Kane in the National team. Hence Southgate decided to give the Brentford forward a chance ahead of the world cup in Qatar.

Apart from Rashford, another United forward, Jadon Sancho has also missed the cut-off. Meanwhile, Jarrod Bowen from West Ham features in the squad. The West Ham player and will have another chance to impress the English gaffer.
