Joao Felix has extended his contract with Atletico Madrid until 2027 prior to his loan move to Premier League side Chelsea until the end of the 22/23 season.
Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid for the remainder of the 22/23 season. Prior to sealing his loan move to the Stamford Bridge outfit, Felix extended his contract with Atletico Madrid until 2027.
Joao Felix previously had a contract until 2026 with Atletico Madrid. The new deal sees the Portuguese superstar extends his contract with the La Liga outfit for one more season.
Joao Felix was heavily linked with a move away from Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window after their chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin admitted in December last year that they could part ways with the Portuguese international.

Joao Felix joins Chelsea on loan from Atletico Madrid for the remainder of the season

A number of clubs were linked with a move for Joao Felix, including Arsenal and Manchester United. However, it was Chelsea who reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid to sign Felix on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Chelsea reportedly agreed to pay a loan fee in the region of €11m to Atletico Madrid to sign Joao Felix. The Stamford Bridge outfit will also cover 100% of Felix’s salary during the loan period.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website after his loan move to the Premier League outfit, Joao Felix said: “Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help the team reach their objectives, so I am very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge.”
Joao Felix has featured in 20 games for Atletico Madrid in the 22/23 season. He has also scored five goals and racked up three assists for the Madrid outfit.
Felix has been playing for Atletico Madrid since they signed him from Benfica in 2019. Atletico Madrid made him their most expensive signing ever when they landed the Portuguese youngster from Benfica.
Since signing for Atletico Madrid, Felix has featured in 131 games for the La Liga giants and have amassed 34 goals across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will be hoping their new signing can help them turn things around, with the Blues currently struggling to find their feet.
