FC Barcelona defender Jordi Alba has admitted he would love Lionel Messi to make a return to the Catalan outfit.

Lionel Messi left Barcelona in 2021 after his contract with the La Liga side had expired. Messi wanted to extend his stay in Barcelona but the Catalan outfit could not retain his services due to financial and structural obstacles.

Lionel Messi then signed for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window of 2021 on a free transfer. The Argentine superstar has been playing for PSG, but his current contract with the French heavyweights expires at the end of June.

Lionel Messi has not yet agreed to a contract extension at PSG. His contract situation at PSG has led to speculation surrounding his future. A move back to Barcelona has been among those speculated on. Inter Miami and Al Hilal are also reportedly interested in Messi’s services.

In an interview with Risto Mejide on the program ‘Viajando con Chester’, Jordi Alba revealed he would love Lionel Messi to make to return to Barcelona. Alba believes it would be good for both Messi and Barcelona. “I would like him to come back, but I don’t know if he will. We haven’t spoken about it because he has a contract with PSG. I would like him to come back. It would be good for the club — and for him,” Alba said [via SPORT].

Speaking about Lionel Messi’s exit from Barcelona in 2021, Jordi Alba revealed he could not believe when he saw the news that the Argentine was leaving the club.

He said: “I had a terrible time. The day it was announced, I spoke to him in the morning and he told me he was coming from Ibiza to sign (a new contract). Then I saw the news with my wife and I didn’t believe it. I was perplexed for two minutes. It was hard because we have a great relationship. I couldn’t believe that Leo was leaving Barça.

Lionel Messi has been impressive for Paris Saint-Germain in the ongoing 22/23 campaign, but the French side have not lived up to the expectations this season. PSG have already been knocked out of both the Champions League and French Cup but leads the race for the Ligue 1 title.

Lionel Messi has appeared in 32 games across all competitions for PSG so far in the ongoing campaign. He has racked up 18 goals and 17 assists for PSG in those matches.
