Jose Mourinho might be in a return to Real Madrid next season. The AS Roma manager has been tipped to replace Carlo Ancelotti next season. The Los Blancos manager is under pressure to win something significant this season. However, pressure is mounting upon the Italian.
Now it has been reported that he will be replaced by Mourinho this summer. According to journalist Oier Fano Dadebat, the former Chelsea manager has a good chance of replacing Carlo Ancelotti.
Real Madrid are already twelve points behind Barcelona in La Liga. They were recently beaten by Barca 2-1 in the El Clasico as well. Thus the chances of retaining the La Liga trophy are very slim. The same goes for the Copa Del Rey as well. Barca have already beaten Real Madrid 1-0 in the first leg.
Carlo Ancelotti only has the Champions League to save Los Blancos this season. However, they face a tricky tie against Chelsea. If they manage to defeat the Blues, Bayern Munich or Manchester City await them. Thus it looks increasingly likely that this season won’t be a success and Ancelotti will be shown the door.
The Portuguese first spell at Santiago Bernabeu was a great success. It was his Real Madrid side that won La Liga with 100 points. Not only this he also broke Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona dominance in Spain.
It was under him that Real Madrid reached three consecutive semi-finals of the Champions League. Later on, that became the footprint for them to dominate the tournament for years to come. Mourinho was responsible for creating the core team for Real Madrid’s Champions League success.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema, Marcelo, etc. were part of his squad. Not only this Luka Modric was a Jose Mourinho singing. The Crot had a horrible first season but the Portuguese urged the Bernabeu to have patience with him. Now it is evident how much that patience has been rewarded by Modric.
Overall. Mourinho was at Real Madrid for three years. However, his time in Spain was very controversial and toxic as well. The level of toxicity had reached such an extent that it affected the Spanish national team. The Spanish players of Los Blancos like Sergio Ramos, Iker Casillas, etc. were not gelling in with Barca Spanish stars like Xavi, Andreas Iniesta, etc.
It looks unlikely that the former Inter Milan manager will return to Los Blancos anytime soon. Carlo Ancelotti is likely to be given the axe but that does not imply that Mourinho will make a return to the Spanish capital.
Firstly there are other top managers available in world football. Although Mourinho still remains one of the best football managers but he has already been a Real Madrid manager. The likes of Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino represent a new brand of football managers.
Secondly, he seems to be fully committed to the AS Roma project. In recent years there have been questions regarding the Portuguese ability. The question have been whether he still has the same prowess which led him to be the European Champion with Porto.
At Roma, he is building something and he has a good chance to answer those critics. While he could do the same with Los Blancos as well. However, the Spanish giants are going through a phase of transition. It is likely that they might not challenge for big trophies soon and Mourinho will become the space goat for it.
