Real Madrid are a dream club for many players. It is no different Josko Gvardiol. The Croatian currently plays in the Bundesliga for RB Leipzig. He is currently regarded as one of the best young players.

According to BILD, the player is keen on playing at Santiago Bernabeu. There is interest from Manchester City as well. However, he is more attracted to playing for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid have informed his representatives that they are keen to sign him as well. But they will have to first sort out their budget for it. The Croatian is likely to be an expensive acquisition.

RB Leipzig have placed a price tag of €100 million on the player. The 21 years old is priced asset for the club. He has been a regular player for them for the past two seasons now. Thus it will be difficult to negotiate with the Germans for the Croatian.

Why does Real Madrid need another defender?

Last summer, Antonio Rudiger arrived from Chelsea on a free transfer. When he arrived at Bernabeu he was one of the best defenders in the world. The German had shown great form under Thomas Tuchel, thus Real Madrid signed the defender. However, he is yet to replicate the same form this season.

David Alaba hasn’t been at his best since the World Cup as well. The Austrian’s form has dropped as well. Nacho is another long-serving defender for Los Blancos. However, he is now 33 years old and he has largely been an understudy.

Thus, Los Blancos only have Eder Militao as a defender who is in good form. The Brazilian is only 25 years old and probably one of the most underrated players in the Los Blancos squad. Due to the present circumstances, Real Madrid wants to sign Gvardiol.

Not only this Los Blancos are building a squad for the future. They already have mini galacticos in Vinicius Junior, Rodrgyo, Fede Valverde, Aurélien Tchouaméni, etc. These young players are already regulars for the club as well.

Will Josko Gvardiol move to Real Madrid this summer?

There is no doubt that there are financial constraints for Los Blancos this summer. Since the coronavirus pandemic, there have been financial crises in the football world. While other clubs especially in the Premier League have managed to remain unaffected.

Apart from this, there are other priorities for Los Blancos. Karim Benzema is now 35 years old. Since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, he has led Real Madrid’s attack very well. But he is not getting any younger as well.

Any replacement for the Frenchman will be a costly affair. Big names like Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and Dušan Vlahović have been mooted as potential replacements. Also, the midfield is another area of whether Real Madrid needs fresh blood. Jude Bellingham’s name has been heavily linked to the Spanish side.

He is another player who is likely to cost big money. Thus prima facie it appears that Los Blancos might not make a move for Gvardiol. This is because the attack and the midfield need more immediate reinforcements compared to the defense.
