Jude Bellingham: Birmingham City’s former CEO Xuandong Ren has revealed that Jude Bellingham snubbed a move to Bayern Munich to join Borussia Dortmund in 2020.
Borussia Dortmund beat a number of top European clubs to the signature of Jude Bellingham in 2020, with the German club landing the then-17-year-old from Birmingham City.
Jude Bellingham has since established himself as one of the most exciting young talents in the world. The 19-year-old has also become a key player for both Borussia Dortmund and England national football team.
Jude Bellingham started in every single game England played at FIFA World Cup 2022 and was impressive for the Three Lions, bagging a goal and an assist in Qatar. He has also attracted transfer interest from a number of top European clubs ahead of the 2023 summer transfer window.

Birmingham City’s former CEO reveals Jude Bellingham snubbed Bayern Munich to join Borussia Dortmund

Xuandong Ren, who is the former CEO of Birmingham City, the club Jude Bellingham played for before joining Borussia Dortmund, has revealed that Bayern Munich made an attempt to sign the young midfielder in 2020.
However, it was Borussia Dortmund who won the race to acquire the services of Jude Bellingham. Xuandong Ren revealed that Bayern Munich tried to increase their offer for Bellingham at the last minute but the youngster chose to join Borussia Dortmund.
“The day he wanted to sign for Dortmund, I got a call from his father asking me to postpone the signing. Bayern tried to increase the offer at the last minute. They offered him so much money,” Xuandong Ren told Mundo Deportivo.
“He chose Dortmund and not Bayern, even though he might not win trophies or not make as much money. He put his development above everything else. How many players would do that?“
Since signing for Borussia Dortmund, Jude Bellingham has featured in 112 games for the Bundesliga outfit and has scored 19 goals.
He has been a regular fixture in the Borussia Dortmund lineup in the 22/23 season. Bellingham has featured 22 games for the German outfit so far this season. He has also racked up nine goals and three assists for them in the 22/23 season.
Meanwhile, Bellingham’s current contract with Borussia Dortmund runs until the end of June 2025.
