Argentina national football team manager Lionel Scaloni said he does not know what Lionel Messi is thinking when quizzed on the speculation surrounding the future of the Paris Saint-Germain superstar.

Lionel Messi has been playing for Paris Saint-Germain after joining the French side in 2021 following the expiry of his contract with Barcelona. But Messi’s current deal with PSG is due to expire at the end of the season, and he has not yet reached an agreement with the Ligue 1 side over a contract renewal.

If Lionel Messi and PSG fail to reach an agreement over extending his stay at the French club, he will become a free agent in the summer. That contract situation has led to speculation surrounding the future of the Argentine superstar.

A move back to Barcelona for Lionel Messi has been speculated on. Several Barcelona players have already admitted they would love for Messi to make a return to the Catalan outfit. Barcelona president Joan Laporta has also left the door open to Messi for a return to the La Liga side.

However, Lionel Scaloni said he wants Lionel Messi to continue playing, be on the pitch, and be happy.

Lionel Scaloni said [via GOAL]: “I’m not in his head, I don’t know what he’s thinking, I don’t know what he’s going to do. What I want is for him to play, to be on the pitch, to be happy.

I would like him to continue playing. The 102 goals. I hope there are more. It deserves all the recognition. It’s good that it was on Argentine soil and that also has a special value.

Lionel Messi recently reached 100 goals milestone for Argentina. The 35-year-old starred for Argentina in their 7-0 rout of Curacao. Messi opened the scoring in that game, and it was his 100th goal for Argentina. He would score two more goals to take his international goal tally to 102.

Lionel Messi has become just the third player to hit 100 goals in men’s international football. Only Iranian legend Ali Daei and Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo have scored more goals in men’s international football than the Argentine icon.
