Football News: Two Argentine defenders, Lisandro Martinez and Cristian Romero have been left in limbo ahead of Argentina’s next two friendlies.
Argentina is set to play two friendlies against Honduras and Jamaica in the ongoing International window. Both Lisandro Martinez and Cristian Romero have been called up by the national team ahead of that.
The first friendly of Argentine is scheduled to happen in the United States on the 24th of September.
However, before that, Lisandro and Romero are yet to join the squad and will probably have to sit out during the friendlies.
Football News: Lisandro and Romero are yet to get their visa
According to TyC Sport, Argentine duo Lisandro Martinez and Cristian Romero are yet to receive their visas, ahead of their double friendlies against Honduras and Jamaica.
It has come to light that due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the US Embassy in England has been closed. Thus, the duo was unable to get their visas ahead of the important friendly matches which are set to be their last matches before the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
Both Romero and Lisandro are mainstays in the Argentine squad. The duo is also in great form of late.
Lisandro joined Manchester United at the start of the season. He has already become a key player in Erik ten Hag’s system and led United to four back-to-back victories. The left-footed centre-back has already established himself as of the best defenders in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, his countryman Cristian Romero helped Tottenham Hotspur remain unbeaten in the league. He has recently moved to the Spurs permanently and so far is one of the first names on Conte’s team.
Similar to Argentina’s defensive duo, the La Albiceleste is one of the most in-form teams in the world.
Under Lionel Scaloni, they won their first silverware in 28 long years when they lifted the Copa America last year. Since then they have been already termed as one of the favourites for the upcoming world cup.
Led by none other than Lionel Messi, Argentina is currently unbeaten in the last 33 matches. Messi himself is also in great form.
The Argentina captain started the season brilliantly. He has already scored six goals and racked up eight assists so far.
He will now hope to carry this form in the upcoming world cup before the last dance on the biggest stage of football.
