Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez responded to Jamie Carragher’s comments regarding his height. The Argentina international has settled quickly at Old Trafford since joining from Ajax last summer.
He has played 22 Premier League games so far, scoring one goal and helping the Red Devils register six clean sheets. The 25-year-old defender won the Manchester United Player of the Month accolade in August 2022.
Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez on Jamie Carragher’s comments
While speaking to the media recently, Lisandro Martinez claimed that it’s not easy to play as a defender with his frame.
He said: “My goal is to get trophies here, I always train hard and, like I said, in an interview before, I don’t have to show anything, I just have to show it here, with my people.

“For example, in the beginning, in Argentina, it was the same. But it’s normal because, in football, it’s not normal to play as a centre-back with my height. It’s not easy as well, you know.”
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said earlier this season that Lisandro Martinez doesn’t possess the physicality to play as a defender in the Premier League. But he has proved his doubters wrong and has established himself among the best defenders in the English top division.
Manchester United interested in Benjamin Sesko
As per the report by Fichajes, Manchester United are interested in signing RB Leipzig attacker Benjamin Sesko. The Red Devils will look to sign the Slovenia international if they fail to land Victor Osimhen from Napoli.
Sesko is currently among the most promising attackers in Europe. He is set to join RB Leipzig at the end of the current season. However, the youngster may not even get the chance to don the Leipzig jersey as Erik ten Hag is keen to add him to his squad.
The 19-year-old attacker has played 66 games (in all competitions) for Salzburg so far, registering 19 goals and 10 assists. He won the Slovenian Footballer of the Year in 2022.
When will Manchester United play next?
Manchester United are currently third in the Premier League table, with 49 points from 24 games. They will next lock horns against Newcastle United in the final of the EFL Cup on Sunday. Lisandro Martinez is likely to play a key role in the game.
