Austria national football team manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that Manchester United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer has a knee problem.
Marcel Sabitzer, who plays for Manchester United on loan from Bayern Munich, is currently on international duty with Austria’s national football team. The 29-year-old featured for Austria in their 4-1 win over Azerbaijan in a UEFA EURO Qualifiers match. He starred for Austria with two goals and an assist to his name against Azerbaijan.
But Marcel Sabitzer was withdrawn towards the end of the game against Azerbaijan. The midfielder was taken off in the 74th minute, with Dejan Ljubicic replacing him.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Austria’s upcoming match against Estonia, Ralf Rangnick confirmed that Marcel Sabitzer has suffered a knock. Rangnick is hopeful, however, that Sabitzer can feature against Estonia.

Apart from Marcel Sabitzer, defender Gernot Trauner was also forced out of the final training session before the match against Estonia.
“In the end, it is a question of pain and pain tolerance for both Marcel and Gernot,” Ralf Rangnick said.
“Of course, we hope that Marcel will do well, especially after that first game in Linz. At the moment, I’m optimistic that it can work but, at the end of the day, it’s also a question of whether Marcel feels ready for it himself. At the moment, I am assuming he’ll play.
“It made more sense to leave them out [of the session] again, just to give them one more day. But there are enough other candidates.”
Meanwhile, Ralf Rangnick also praised Marcel Sabitzer’s performance for Austria in their impressive win over Azerbaijan. Rangnick described Sabitzer’s performance as outstanding.
“Sabi’s performance was outstanding,” Ralf Rangnick told Laola 1. “You can’t say it any other way. He is simply a player with a lot of quality. I think the change [move] did him good. He is literally flourishing, which is very, very good. He has a lot more confidence than when he was at Bayern Munich.”
Meanwhile, Marcel Sabitzer joined Manchester United from Bayern Munich in the January transfer window on loan for the remainder of the 22/23 season. Since making the move to Manchester United, Sabitzer has appeared in nine games across all competitions for the Old Trafford outfit.
