Marcos Alonso will renew his contract with Barcelona beyond the end of the 22/23 season, according to a report in SPORT.
Barcelona signed Marcos Alonso on a free transfer in the summer of 2022 after the Spaniard’s contract with Chelsea had expired. The Spanish left-back signed a one-year contract with Barcelona in 2022.
Marcos Alonso has entered the final six months of his current Barcelona contract. He is due to be out of contract at the end of June 2023. However, the 32-year-old will continue to ply his trade for Barca beyond this season.
SPORT report that Marcos Alonso’s contract renewal with Barcelona is imminent and that the Catalan club’s manager Xavi and the sporting committee have given a green signal to his contract renewal.

Marcos Alonso’s Barcelona contract extension imminent
SPORT report that the agreement between Barcelona and Marcos Alonso over his contract renewal is practically complete and that the announcement of the contract extension could be imminent.
The Spanish outlet also reports that Marcos Alonso will sign a one-year contract extension with Barcelona with the option to extend it by another 12 months.
Since joining Barcelona in the summer transfer window, Marcos Alonso has featured in 19 games across all competitions for the Spanish behemoths so far in the 22/23 season.
10 of those appearances have come in La Liga, with Alonso starting in five of those and coming off the bench in the other five. He also made five appearances for Barcelona in the Champions League, starting in each of those.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are aiming to win the La Liga title this season. The Catalan outfit have been impressive in the Spanish top flight so far this season and they are the league leaders.
Xavi and co. are at the top of the La Liga points table with 44 points from 17 matches. Barcelona have 14 wins, two draws, and one defeat in those 17 games. They have a three-point lead over defending champions and second-placed Real Madrid.
Real Madrid, who will be aiming to defend the title, have 41 points from 17 matches. They have 13 wins, two draws and two defeats.
Barcelona have also progressed to the semi-final of Copa del Rey. But the Catalan outfit are out of the Champions League after finishing third in Group C, behind Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.
However, they have qualified for the Europa League round-of-16 play-off, where they will face Manchester United.
