Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has said Los Blancos are at the beginning of a new era and not the end of one amid their slump in form.
Real Madrid have suffered defeats in two of their last three games. The defending La Liga champions resumed their campaign after the end of FIFA World Cup 2022 with a 2-0 win over Real Valladolid in La Liga. They followed that up with a 1-0 win over Cacereno in the Copa del Rey round of 32.
However, Carlo Ancelotti and co. slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Villarreal in La Liga in their next game. Real Madrid then took on Valencia in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final and edged out their opponents in the penalty shootout after the two sides remained locked in a draw at the end of normal and extra time.
Real Madrid then squared off with fierce rivals FC Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final. Los Blancos were far from their best against Barcelona in the Super Cup final, and it was the Catalan outfit who clinched the title. Barcelona inflicted a 3-1 defeat on Real Madrid to lift the Spanish Super Cup title.

“I think this is the beginning of an era at this club” – Carlo Ancelotti

Their recent defeats have raised suggestions Real Madrid are nearing the end of an era. However, Carlo Ancelotti does not agree with such suggestions as he insisted Real Madrid are at the beginning of a new era.
“This is a young team,” Carlo Ancelotti said in a press conference ahead of their Copa del Rey clash with Villarreal.
“Everyone talks about Modric, Kroos, and Benzema but we have to talk about the youngsters too: [Eduardo] Camavinga, Vinicius, Rodrygo, [Federico] Valverde, [Eder] Militao, [Aurelien] Tchouameni and those to come.
“I think this is the beginning of an era at this club… It’s a moment of transition, from a fantastic era to another era. The day that Karim, Toni, and Luka stop playing — and let’s hope it’s years away — there are others who will take charge of this team. It isn’t the end, it’s the beginning.”
Meanwhile, Real Madrid currently sits second in the La Liga points table, behind their El Clasico rivals FC Barcelona. Real Madrid have 38 points from 16 matches in La Liga so far in the 22/23 season.
Barcelona, meanwhile, have a three-point lead over Real Madrid. The Catalan outfit have 41 points from 16 matches.
