In the summer of 2022, Real Madrid were confident of signing Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint Germain. All was set and done between the player and Los Blancos.
However, in the end, the moment the Frenchman backed out. He signed a contract extension with PSG with a huge paycheck. The said move disrupted Real Madrid’s whole planning for the season.
The memory of Mbappe’s betrayal are still fresh in Los Blanco’s mind. Recently after PSG were knocked out of the Round of 16 of the Champions League by Bayern Munich. Thus rumors of the Frenchman being linked to Real Madrid resurfaced.
However, the Spanish giants are not interested in pursuing the 24 years old as per Marca. Not only this they also know they are in no position to negotiate with the French giants. This is because just last season Mbappe signed a contract extension.
Kylian Mbappe’s Real Madrid regret
It is likely that former Monaco forward regrets the contract extension. This season again PSG have failed to move past the Round of 16 of the Champions League. Last season despite having a two-goal lead they lost to Real Madrid as well.
It is the competition of the Champions League that holds significance for PSG. The French League has become a mere formality for the Ligue 1 giants.

Paris Saint Germain managers are judged upon their Champions League campaign. This time again they failed to perform well in the competition. Currently, Mbappe is 24 years old. PSG are unlikely to allow him to leave anytime soon.
Even if they allow there is hardly any club that could afford his price tag. On top of it, PSG are underperforming season after season in the Champions League. Thus there seems to be no relief for Mbappe at Parc De Princes.
Other options and issues for Real Madrid
Recently news came out that Los Blancos are ready to move for Erling Haaland. The Norwegian goal machine has proven himself in the Premier League as well.
While Mbappe still plays in a relatively less competitive league. This season Haaland already has 28 Premier League goals. He is well on his way to breaking records in his first season.
Also, Los Blancos can no longer wait for a new No.9. Karim Benzema is now 35 years old. This season he has faced injury issues as well. There is a need for a long-term replacement for the former Lyon striker.
On the face of it, Mbappe might not be the ideal replacement for Benzema. Former Monaco forward has primarily in his career playing on the wings. But Real Madrid are in need of a proper No.9.
